The rumors are true – in just a few short months, Austin, Texas will be the new home of Roxi Copland Music, Inc. As you can see from the image above, the whole family is busy gearing up for our next big adventure. (Hooray, fun with Photoshop!) It’s an exciting–if slightly crazy–time. So what’s the deal with this madness? For starters, I really, really hate the cold. Maybe growing up in the Pacific Northwest with mild winters left me incapable of dealing with temps below freezing. Who knows? But if I have to shovel my truck out from under five feet of snow one more time, I’m gonna lose it. Also, Austin has tacos. Lots and lots of tacos.
But on a more serious note – if you’ve been following my music for a while, you’ve seen the evolution from jazz/pop to where I live now at the crossroads of blues, jazz and Americana. Austin is known as the Live Music Capital of the World, obviously, but it’s also Grand Central Station for cross-genre musical innovation. As much as I love Milwaukee and the Midwest will always be my home-away-from-home, I’m looking forward to being a part of the Austin music culture (and living somewhere my frequent use of the term ‘y’all’ and my affinity for cowboy boots is considered totally normal).
And more news!
In celebration of the grand relocation, in late April I’ll be embarking on the Halfway to Austin Tour. I’m working on booking now, but there’s definitely still time to holler at me if you’d like a house concert at your place sometime this summer. All tour dates will be posted here at the website (roxicopland.com/tour/) and you can get details on house concerts here. Feel free to check back in on the tour calendar often – I’ll be adding new dates frequently.
And of course, what would a newsletter be without a couple of pictures?
Check out the Halfway to Austin Tour logo (by Jason Brawn, designer extraordinaire). Coming soon to a t-shirt near you! Just a little extra incentive to make it out to one of the tour dates this summer:
Due to the upcoming move I’ll be wrapping up my residency at the Monarch Lounge in the Hilton City Center in May. Milwaukee folks – come catch me and the baby grand in action before I head south!
