October 2008 News
Welcome to the October 2008 edition of what I’m up to musically. On the website calendar you can find every public performance that I’m planning on being a part of this month – I’ll be splitting my time fairly evenly between three groups: The Roxi Copland Band, the Ladyfingers, and Max Wellman’s Trio.
A couple of things I’ll point out -
The Roxi Copland Band is taking over the Cosmopolitan this month. As in, we have five performances there – the guys and I love playing this venue, and we especially love it when there’s a full house to play to. This has happened rather frequently as of late, and for that we’d like to extend a big THANK YOU to our friends and fans. You are fabulous. In addition to the regular crew of Jason Danielson, Dave Altemeier and John Kizilarmut, we’ll be joined by several other fantastic musicians throught the month – Dave Bohl (sax), Seth Hedquist (guitar) and John McClaggan (sax) will also be making appearances. Please come out and hang with us at one (or two, or three . . ) of our gigs there this month. If for some odd reason we fail to entertain you up to your expectations, why – there’s a perfectly fantastic wine list to make up for it.
If you’re looking at the dates entitled ‘the Ladyfingers’ and scratching you head wondering just what sort of entity has a name like that and what on earth it is that the group does, I’ll happily enlighten you, as follows – the Ladyfingers is a dueling pianos group comprised of myself, Megan Hill and Whitney Maxwell. Basically you request whatever song you’d like to hear, and if we have any sort of inkling as to how the tune goes, we’ll play and sing it for you. This includes anything from Sinatra to the Eagles to Gloria Gaynor to Coolio, and everything in between . . it’s a lot of fun.
As far as you jazz-standards lovers – those of you who haven’t heard Max Wellman sing yet, I recommend that you do. He’s got a great voice and a passion for jazz, and it’s a lot of fun playing in the trio. Steve Charlson is the usual bassist, and if you’re into a bassist with a deep pocket and wonderfully melodic solos, Steve’s your guy.
Here’s hoping all of you have a fantastic October, and I’ll look forward to seeing you soon.
cheers,
Roxi
