Night on the town w/ Ryan Cabrera & Co.
Roxi, David, and Ryan
Last saturday was insane. In that-oh-my-God-we-almost-died-let’s-do-that-again sort of way. It started when my friend Tiffany called me around 10:30pm. Since I had a rare Saturday night off, I had decided to drink some wine & work on a new song, and I had been doing both with gusto up until she called and announced that she’d just been at Ryan Cabrera’s show and that she’d spoken with them afterwards – and, that they wanted to go out & party.
Clearly I couldn’t pass this up. So Tiffany picked me up, and then we went to pick up Ryan and his band (Jerrad, David & Ethan). Then we took them to Uncle Buck’s (you know, the West Des Moines meat market w/ the mechanical bull) and proceeded to drink. Apparently Ryan’s favorite shot happens to be mine as well (Patron Silver). Tequila is always the beginning of the end.
To be fair, it wasn’t all our fault. Girls kept coming up and throwing themselves at Ryan and the rest of the band, and they were buying drinks for all of us as well. Clearly it would have been impolite to turn them down.
The bar closed around 2, and we stumbled out. Jerrad, the drummer, doesn’t drink – which was fortunate, because we now had a DD, and he drove us all back to the hotel the guys were staying at for the afterparty. For security/ethical reasons I think I’ll let the hotel remain nameless.
No sooner had we managed to make it up a few floors in the elevator then one of the guys in the band decided it would be fun to pull the fire alarm. Fabulous, I thought. I’m totally not in the mood to be arrested right now.
Ryan & Roxi
Fortunately we made it into one of their rooms without further incident, and tried our best to keep everyone quiet. It was decided that food might be the only thing to keep everyone happy-and so we headed back outside, which is when a member of the band who had been MIA for the last hour came huffing out, annoyed that his attempts to have a threesome with a couple of girls he’d met at Uncle Buck’s had failed. This was the point where I took off – I had an early mtg. and 8am comes pretty early when you go to bed at 3:30.
Moral of the story: partying with rock starts can be highly entertaining. Just make sure that someone’s sober enough to drive. And keep some gatorade & ibuprofen on hand for the morning after.
