July Newsletter
Hello! And welcome to another exciting edition of Roxi Copland’s monthly newsletter- your best source for all things Roxi-related. I have a couple of really exciting announcements to share with you this month- one musical, one personal.
It’s July! If you live in Des Moines, you know what that means: sweltering heat, tree-splitting thunderstorms, and a good possibility of flash flooding. Well, yes. But that’s not what I meant. I’m talking about Metro Arts‘ Jazz in July. For those of you not in the know, Jazz in July is exactly what it sounds like: a full month’s worth of fantastic free jazz. (Not free Jazz as in polyrhythmic multi-instrumental improvisation, free jazz as in you don’t have to pay for it!)
This year’s Jazz in July line up features Ashanti, Fred Gazzo, Tony Valdez, Los Saltinos, yours truly and many more. Click on the Metro Arts link above to get the full schedule. Ok- now it’s shameless self-promotion time: Come one, come all to the Jazz in July Kick Off Concert Spectacular! This year’s Jazz in July will launch on June 30th. Ok, I know that’s not technically in July, but I’m hoping you’ll let it slide. So- June 30th at 6:00pm at Prairie Meadows. My band and I will be opening for the Mingus Dynasty Band, an absolutely fantastic internationally touring act of phenomenal musicians. Don’t miss ‘em.
On a personal note, l won’t be around much this month because I’m taking a little break for a couple of weeks – to get married
I promise a couple of pics for the next newsletter. Shortly after the wedding, I’ll be off on my honeymoon in sunny Mexico. But not to worry, I’ll be back near the end of the month. Any of my Kansas fans can catch me at the Little Apple Jazz Festival in Manhattan, KS on July 17. Come on out for a great time! (Actually, you don’t have to be from Kansas. Feel free to drive across the country for it.)
That’s it for now – as always, you can find more details as roxicopland.com. I hope you’re all enjoying summer, and I look forward to catching up with you at a performance soon!
Cheers,
-Roxi
