January Newsletter
Happy new year- or perhaps I should say, happy new decade. I hope this note finds all of you well and succeeding smashingly with all of your new year/decade self-improvement goals. There’s so much going on in the life and times of Roxi Copland right now that I hardly know where to begin. However, since I don’t want to write a novel (and you don’t want to read one) – I’ll stick to the big three: 1) The Calliope Concert Series, 2) The New CD, and 3) Spring Tour 2010. So here goes…
The Calliope Concert Series
Despite the prominence of a select few women musicians like Shakira, Brittany Spears, and Beyoncé, women represent a significant minority of musicians in the US. According to the last census only 34% of professional musicians are women. The numbers are even worse when you take away the classical musicians. This state of affairs really is rather tragic when you consider that there are more women than men in the US. In response to all this, I’m joining forces with the Des Moines Social Club for a celebration of women in music. For four months, I’m holding a series of concerts and bringing a fabulous group of women musicians to the Des Moines Social Club. The series kicks off this month on January 16 with Rae Fehring (formerly of the Honeybees). For complete series details, check out the series website at roxicopland.com/calliope (Special thanks to the series sponsors: Joseph’s Jewlers, Found Things, and Vanity and Glamour Cosmetics.)
New CD
I’m frantically recording right now. In fact, it’s very likely that the instant you’re reading this, I’m in the studio. I pretty much sleep there these days. But it’s going fantastically. If you’ve been to a show recently you’ve heard a few of the new tunes that will be on the new album, including ‘What’s It To You’, ‘Thank You Libby’, and ‘Perfect for Me’. I’ve also been writing up a storm and there’ll be one or two surprises I think you’re going to love. I’m still hammering out the details of the release party, which will most likely take place in March. Preordering will be available soon!
Spring Tour 2010
Yesterday, I booked the third show of the Roxi Copland Spring Tour 2010! Shannon Curtis and I will be joining forces again and tackling a wider swath of the country. The current plan includes 16 cities in 10 states. I’m still booking so if you want me to make sure I stop in your city you can do two things: 1) Email me the name of the club you’d like me to play at. 2) Get your friends together and go down to that venue and tell them you want Roxi and Shannon.
Facebook Fan Page: So I’ve decided that updating two facebook pages is a royal pain, and as a result, I’m going to be shutting down my personal page shortly and just using my fan page to stay in touch. If you’re friends w/ my personal page, you can make the switch here. Even if you’re not on my friends list, feel free to join! I’d be honored if you’d let me keep in touch with you. (That might’ve technically been a fourth thing, but I hope you’ll forgive me.)
OK – that’s all for now. Whew! I can’t tell you how much I appreciate your continued support, and I hope to see you at a show soon.
Cheers,
-Roxi
